Carmen Hakham was born in Baghdad, Iraq, in 1957. In her interview she remembers growing up in a city with a much diminished Jewish community. In 1969 Carmen's father was imprisoned for four months and she speaks about the impact this had on the family. In 1970 the whole family were arrested and held for over two weeks. Carmen and her family obtained passports and left Iraq in 1971.
