Alec Messulam was born in 1946 in Alexandria, Egypt. His family spoke Arabic at home, and he spoke French at school. Having to leave Egypt in 1957 came as a shock to Alec, and he found it difficult to leave. His family settled in Liverpool and he attended King David Secondary School as one of its first students.
