Marcelle Shamash

Marcelle Shamash was born in 1921 in Baghdad, Iraq. In her interview she described her childhood in Baghdad, growing up in house by the river. After WWII, her husband became an MP in Iraq, one of only three Jews. After his early passing in 1956 she left Iraq and settled in the UK. In 1967 she returned to Iraq to visit her parents and became stuck due to the outbreak of the Six Day War, unable to leave again until 1970. This was an audio interview.
