Jacques Mawas was born in 1933 in Alexandria, Egypt. He grew up living with his father in Alexandria and attended a French school. He left Egypt in 1957 to study in Italy, and returned to Egypt often throughout his career. In 1977 Jacques moved to Britain and settled in Brighton.
