Emile Cohen was born in 1943 in Basra, Iraq. In his interview he remembered feelings of anxiety and growing antisemitism, to the point that he hid his Judaism. In 1959 he arrived in London to study, intending to return to Iraq, although this never happened. He is active in preserving Judaic-Arabic music and culture.
