Ellis Douek was born in 1934 in Cairo, Egypt. Ellis describes his childhood in Cairo of the forties, growing up in a modern block of flats in the upscale neighbourhood of Zamalek and going to English schools. Ellis studied medicine in the UK and became and ENT consultant at Guys Hospital in London.
