David Khalastchi was born in 1926 in Shamiya, Iraq. In his interview he described an unusual business life in Iraq; as his family was in agriculture, he had many Iraqi business partners and was close to many tribal leaders. He left Iraq in 1967 and settled in the UK, dividing his time between London and the countryside.
