Azoury Attar was born in 1946 in Baghdad, Iraq. Although he goes by Azoury, this is a nickname for his given name; Ezra. In his interview he emphasised the good relationship his family shared with their Muslim neighbours and his father’s respected position within the wider community in Iraq. In 1970 the family left Iraq and settled in Israel. He moved to the UK in 1975.
